A historical reconstruction of an 18th century women's cotton and linen jacket and linen apron, all completely hand-sewn, with the addition of a machine sewn stomacher to fill in the front and a machine sewn petticoat made from a found poly-cotton quilted bedspread. The patterns and construction methods are all taken from Linda Baumgarten's book, "Costume Close-up," which contains patterns from the costume collection of Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. These types of garments are very similar across all classes of women at the time, with this particular reconstruction most likely to have been worn by a ladies maid or house servant, but could also be a middle class or merchant woman's daytime dress.
