Costume Interpretation - Etienne Drian

A costume inspired by an illustration by artist Etienne Drian, "La Marseillaise," ca. 1916. Concessions were made with the style when translating into a realized garment after draping toiles to find he right shape. The essence of the look was narrowed down to the crisp, prominent scalloped collar on the jacket. The scalloped tiers and hem of the skirt, and tabs around the hem of the jacket seen in the illustration were left out to avoid the look of a pantomime costume rather than the quirky sophistication the illustration exudes.
